While choosing from the wide array of chandeliers at your local store or online, the first thing you want to do is make sure it will go with your existing decor. It is possible to mix up styles a bit since chandeliers work well with both traditional and contemporary designs. But make sure the chandelier lamp shades match the look and feel of the room. Chandeliers are so popular because of the look and also because of the light they emit. They are great for setting the mood of a room. And you can get shades from more contemporary to shabby chic. The shades can lower the light and make everyone more relaxed.
Combining round with square looks great. Add a Mission style floor lamp beside your cozy round chair, or how about a square base with funky round shades that use halogen lamps near a window? Combine square and round in the room or in the lamp. Let your creativity flow because the end result will be a very hip room! Your house is rather like the Jetson’s with every high tech gadget known to mankind yet you’re a traditional gal at heart. Your rooms are filled with trendy furnishings and plenty of metal but something really seams to be missing. Perhaps there’s too much Silicon Valley and not enough of that traditional gal showing through?

Cover your existing lamp shades or lamp shade frames with your chosen materials. Glue in place using a glue gun folding in the edges to neaten them. Fabric may need to be stiffened by using iron on backing. (Apply this after you cut the fabric otherwise you will have more difficulty cutting the shape. If necessary, paper can also be stiffened by gluing onto thin card. If covering a shade in fabric, in addition to applying glue, stitch the fabric in place with small stitches around the top and bottom of the frame to secure into place.
