Combining round with square looks great. Add a Mission style floor lamp beside your cozy round chair, or how about a square base with funky round shades that use halogen lamps near a window? Combine square and round in the room or in the lamp. Let your creativity flow because the end result will be a very hip room! Your house is rather like the Jetson’s with every high tech gadget known to mankind yet you’re a traditional gal at heart. Your rooms are filled with trendy furnishings and plenty of metal but something really seams to be missing. Perhaps there’s too much Silicon Valley and not enough of that traditional gal showing through?
More and more people are learning to appreciate the quality and styling of antique floor lamps especially as most of the ones being produced today are molded plastic and literally made to be thrown away. Most all floor lamp makers from the turn of the century made their lamps from heavy metals such as cast iron, brass, steel and cast zinc sometimes combined with marble, onyx, glass and stone. Our lamp shop regularly restores these antique floor lamps for resale as well as for our customers’ own use. From our 30 years of experience it is clear that many of these antique floor lamps will last for hundreds of years. You will find some other surprises about these collectible works of art below.
Now, the question that arises in our minds is what is it that makes bankers desk lamps so popular? Well, the reasons for this are many. First of all, these lamps can act as an excellent piece of decoration as well. For instance, if you have some other lamp, then you will be able to fulfill only one of these purposes. You would probably buy either a designer lamp which can be only deployed as a piece of decoration by making it stand in one of the corners of the room, or just a simple desk lamp which can be used for only lighting the desk.
If you have used a patterned fabric or paper you will probably not need much in the way of decoration although you might like to add a braid trim around the edges in a coordinating color. If you have made a plain shade however you can really go to town adding beads, sequins, fringing and the like. Your glue gun will come in handy once again for attaching anything you desire to your shade. Use your imagination and create something very special and unique but remember that you will have to replicate the process for each individual shade so make sure you don’t run out of trimmings.
